Comedy Movies on Showtime [Extended]
Hit The Road (2021)
The dark and ironic humor of the movie was what attracted me to it in the first go. Not only this, but the grounded love the characters had for each other, the scenes where the family is singing and dancing together in the car got an ear-to-ear smile on my face. The movie revolves around an elderly couple and their two sons set out on a road vacation through rural Iran. They become closer as they travel together they discuss old memories, face their anxieties about the future, and worry about their sick puppy.

The Good Boss (2021)
The last movie I watched was “The Good Boss” (2021), and I was pleasantly surprised. One of the film’s highlights is Javier Bardem’s portrayal of a quirky, misguided, yet competent boss, which exemplifies the actor’s versatility.
The movie revolves around the owner of a company that manufactures industrial scales and works to address any issues from his employees while he waits for a committee that could visit and honor his business for excellence.
The movie’s humor is subtle but effective, mixing office humor with touching scenes that examine the difficulties of relationships and personal development.

- Runtime: 1h 56m
- Genre: Comedy, Drama

Grace Under Pressure (2019)
The movie is a fictionalized account of the myth that Grave Jones and artist Jean-Paul were once robbed by a burglar who was interrupted by Debbie Harry and Andy Warhol. Through absurd comedy, the movie shows us the attempts made by a burglar to disguise himself as Jones and the surreal conversations that take place between him and the other characters. The part that got my attention was the way Warhol and Jones discussed the whole meaning of art. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves offbeat comedy.

- Runtime: –
- Genre: Comedy, Biography, Adventure

Igby Goes Down (2002)
Igby Goes Down is a true story about a misfit 17-year-old boy who relies on connections with older women to get by while dealing with his mother’s cancer and his insane father. Igby, a modern-day Holden Caulfield who is genuinely intelligent, lives in a world that falls well short of his high expectations for it. We all may relate to it because somewhere in our lives, we all have been disappointed by ourselves.

Gary Owen: Black Famous (2021)
We absolutely enjoyed watching Gary Owen: Black Famous (2021) as his comedic genius shined when he fearlessly discussed pop culture, race, and relationships and threw epic shades at these. He bridged the gap beautifully by putting personal anecdotes into his humor that made the entire movie relatable for everyone in the room. You might be thinking that it’s only related to laughs but let us tell you, it’s not. Gary has also done a commentary on the identity complexes today. Since I am someone who loves humor with perspective, this comedic had me laughing from the beginning till the end.

I.Q. (1994)
Romcoms have always remained my go-to movies but I.Q. is surely one of my favorites. It’s a charming and witty film with a great cast, including Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, and Walter Matthau. Meg Ryan plays Catherine Boyd, a brilliant Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University who is engaged to stiff James Moreland (Stephen Fry). A mechanic and all-around normal guy named Ed Walters (Tim Robbins) develops feelings for Catherine and looks for ways to win her over. Ed pretends to be a physicist with the aid of Catherine’s uncle, Albert Einstein (Walter Matthau), believing that his IQ holds the key to Catherine’s heart.

- Rotten Tomatoes: 43%
- Runtime: 1h 40m
- Genre: Comedy, Romance
- Cast: Tim Robbins (Ed Walters), Meg Ryan (Catherine Boyd), Walter Matthau (Albert Einstein)
It Takes Two (1994)
Being the Olsen Twins fan, I have watched each and every movie of these girls since childhood and It Takes Two is one of my favorites. Alyssa, from an affluent household, and Amanda, from an orphanage, are two identical young girls who randomly cross paths one day. Together, they devise a plan to try and convince Alyssa’s father, Roger, to refrain from making the biggest mistake of his life—marrying the abhorrent Clarisse.

- Runtime: 1h 41m
- Genre: Comedy, Romance, Family
- Cast: Kirstie Alley (Diane Barrows), Steve Guttenberg (Roger Callaway), Mary-Kate Olsen (Amanda Lemmon)
Jimmy Hollywood (1994)
Joe Pesci’s character, Jimmy Alto, is an unemployed actor in Hollywood, California, who decides to kill criminals to pass the time. Jimmy creates a vigilante organization under the identity “Jericho” with the help of his dimwitted friend William (Christian Slater). Jimmy documents criminal activity and provides the police with the evidence rather than confronting them directly. This chase inevitably gets Jimmy and William into a lot of trouble.

Getting Even with Dad (1994)
I luckily landed on this movie one day while looking for 90s comedy and ended up falling in love with the message this movie delivered. Getting Even With Dad gives us a message of personal growth and family bonds being essential in today’s world.
Con artist Ray Gleason (Ted Danson) is attempting to steal a cache of rare coins when his estranged son Timmy (Macaulay Culkin) turns up out of the blue. Timmy chooses to use blackmail to force Ray to act like a parent because he is too preoccupied with his robbery to spend much time with his son.
He keeps the coins hidden and says he won’t return them until Ray brings him to theme parks and baseball games. Detective Theresa Walsh (Glenne Headly) is pursuing Ray in the meantime.

- IMDb rating: 4.8/10

- Runtime: 1h 49m

A Genie’s Tail (2022)
Who doesn’t love dogs? These cute creatures have always been the center of attention for many. Being a dog owner, I could relate to this movie the most. In the movie, a puppy accidentally uncovers a lamp containing two rowdy Genie brothers. When one of the Genies unintentionally enters the puppy, a desire makes the puppy abruptly mature into a full-grown animal. The Genie’s ability to grant wishes is incredibly unstable while trapped within a dog, and his attempts to grant wishes for his new master end in funny – and annoying – mishaps.
